“I used to reside in family shelters and was struggling to make ends meet. It was difficult to spend time with my children while working hard to earn an income. Back then, I couldn’t even secure a place to stay.
To me, my children are the most important and I always want the best for them, especially when it comes to their education. But sometimes, I am concerned about the cost of sending them to tuition or that they are overexerting themselves. I can’t really afford to take them out as much as I wish I could.
But SPIN really turned my life for the better by helping me to cope with being a single mom. They journeyed with me through crisis periods and also helped me to secure the rental flat I now stay in with my children. All the activities and workshops they’ve organised has also given me precious opportunities to spend time with my children. It brings me a lot of joy to see the smiles on their faces.”
I will never forget the opportunity I had to meet President Halimah Yacob during a SPIN event. It was an emotional and significant moment for me to see a Malay woman, like myself, in a position of power. This reminded me that it is possible for me to do anything as long as I put my heart and mind to it.
My time with SPIN and journey as a mother, has inspired me to improve the lives of my children – one step at a time. With the help of those around me, I continue to do the best I can as a mother to my four children.”
